A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and The Julliard Opera Center, Bass-Baritone Andrew Nolen has sung in prestigious opera houses and concert halls worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, and the Royal Lyceum Theater in Edinburgh. He has recorded with Naxos and Bridge Records, and is currently a member of the ensemble of Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach in Germany.
Juilliard-trained American bass-baritone Andrew Nolen has performed a diverse repertoire in opera and concert venues spanning the globe, from Carnegie Hall to the Royal Lyceum Theater in Edinburgh. For the 2011-2012 season Andrew joins the ensemble of Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach in Germany, where he will sing the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro, Oroveso in Norma, Il Frate in Don Carlo, Leander in The Love of Three Oranges, and The Magister in Nielsen's Maskerade.
A favorite of composers and conductors alike, Mr. Nolen began 2010 with numerous contemporary music concerts, premiering new works with The Coterie, New York City’s Opera Mission, American Lyric Theater, Jody Oberfelder Dance Company, and Beth Morrison Projects. Also in 2010, he sang the role of Polinesso in Handel's Ariodante at the Princeton Festival, and his recording of Eugene Drucker's settings of Four Sonnets by Shakespeare was released by Bridge Records.
In 2009, Nolen performed with the Wooster Group in a production of Cavalli's La Didone on tour in New York, Los Angeles, and in Europe. Also in 2009, Andrew made his Carnegie Hall debut, performing as the bass soloist in Handel's Dettingen Te Deum with the Orchestra of St. Luke's; he sang the roles of Jahel and St. Corentin in Lalo's Le Roi d'Ys with the American Symphony Orchestra in Avery Fisher Hall; performed the world premiere of Eugene Drucker's Shakespeare Sonnets with the Escher Quartet at Symphony Space in New York; and was the bass soloist in Arvo Pärt's Passio with the Oberlin College Choir.
Mr. Nolen’s operatic roles include the title roles in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro, Nick Shadow in The Rake’s Progress, Olin Blitch in Susannah, Alidoro in La Cenerentola, and Alexandr Petrovič in From the House of the Dead. He has performed with international theaters and companies such as the Brussels Kaaitheater, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theater, Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg, Lyrique-en-Mer in France, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Dubai Festival Opera, the Wooster Group, and the Waverly Consort. Andrew can be heard as the bass soloist on Naxos of America's box set of Haydn's complete masses with maestra Jane Glover and the Rebel Orchestra. He has performed at the Tribeca Film Festival as a soloist in Arvo Pärt's Passio, which accompanied the premiere of Paulo Cherchi Usai's film of the same name.
Andrew trained at Oberlin Conservatory, the Cincinnati Conservatory, and the Juilliard Opera Center, and was an apprentice with Seattle Opera and Santa Fe Opera. Mr. Nolen has worked under the direction of distinguished stage directors and conductors including Colin Graham, Elizabeth LeCompte, Frank Corsaro, Julius Rudel, Robert Shaw, Ton Koopman, Jane Glover, Robert Spano, and Stephen Lord, and is frequently the bass-baritone choice of composers to premiere new works.

Ebenso rege internationale Festivaltätigkeiten u.a. beim Festival Lyrique en Mer (Belle-Île-en- Mer) in Frankreich und dem Edinburgh Festival (Royal Lyceum Theater). 2009 trat er erstmalig in der Manhattan Carnegie Hall als Sänger der Basspartie in Händel's Dettingen Te Deum mit dem Orchestra of St. Luke's auf.
Darüber hinaus sang er als Bass Solist bei Naxos of America in einer Aufnahme sämtlicher Haydn Messen auf CD unter der Stabführung von Jane Glover und dem Rebel Orchestra (2009). Ebenso auf CD: "Four Sonnets" von Eugene Drucker bei Bridge Records (2010).
Andrew Nolen arbeitete musikalisch unter den Dirigaten von Robert Shaw, Robert Spano, Julius Rudel, Stephen Lord. Meisterkurse und Coachings absolvierte er u.a. bei Marylin Horne und Warren Jones.
Der Bass gehört in der Spielzeit 2011/12 dem Solistenensemble des Theater Krefeld -Mönchengladbach an, wo er unter anderem den Figaro in Nozze di Figaro, Oroveso in Norma, Il Frate/Carlo V in Don Carlo und Leander in Die Liebe zu den Drei Orangen verkörpern wird.
Darüber hinaus wird er Haydns Harmoniemesse mit die Niederrheinischen Sinfonikern singen.
